Abstract

Analyses limitations of current product data management (PDM) systems in product development among different areas when the enterprises face the trend of decentralization, collectivization and specialization. A system architecture of PDM adapted to advance toward Internet is proposed and the implementation process of a PDM system based on it is described. The main body of it is a three-tier model. According to a classification of enterprise requirements; it executes different implementation policies and can integrate the current application, giving rooms for the enterprise development in their requirements. Finally, the feasibility of this architecture is validated in the successful implementation of SOAR-PDM, a prototype system making for advance toward Internet.
