Abstract

Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is made up of a number of sensor nodes and base stations. Quality of Service (QoS) support is important yet difficult in WSN because restraint of resources and unreliable transmission. The other feature of WSN is its self-similar traffic which affects queue size greatly and makes delay and packet loss worse. Packet scheduling algorithm and active queue management can be designed to improve QoS performance for WSN. In this paper, we propose an Adaptive Weighted Fair Queuing (A-WFQ) by adjusting the weight of a queue according to the queuing delay that relates to the Hurst parameter of self-similar traffic. A-WFQ is simple to implement in WSN and the simulation results show that our algorithm can improve delay and packet loss with service differentiation under self-similar traffic.
