Abstract

In the referenced paper [by Jin, Huang, Zhang, and Hou, Multidimensional Systems and Signal Processing, 20(4): 397-406, 2009], a rank-reduction based direction finding algorithm called Rayleigh MUSIC (R-MUSIC) is proposed to deal with the multimode nature of the acoustic propagation in the shallow ocean. However, when a linear array is utilized, R-MUSIC degrades severely for sources located in the vicinity of the array broadside. In this note, a measure is given to overcome this drawback.
