A noise canceller for mobile communications utilizing time-frequency analysis

Research output: Contribution to conferencePaperpeer-review

Abstract

In mobile communications, speech is always polluted seriously due to the channel fading. In this paper, a speech enhancement method is developed to improve the quality of polluted speech by cancelling harsh noises. The core algorithm is referred to as time-frequency filtering. A new factor, power barycenter, is introduced for detecting harsh noises. The simulation is performed over a standard GSM platform. The results show that the method is effective to improve the speech quality with little computational overhead.
