Abstract

The fully polarized entomological radar is an effective tool for monitoring insect migration by obtaining target orientation, body length, and mass through polarization information. However, most previous methods for calculating insect parameters are obtained through the analysis of microwave anechoic chamber data, which often resulted in poor accuracy in the actual process. In this paper, we summarized the recently proposed polarization calibration methods, orientation estimation, and mass estimation methods for the fully polarized entomological radar and summarized a new entomological radar polarization signal processing framework. The proposed framework is applied to a fully polarized entomological radar and long-term accurate observation data has been obtained.
