Abstract

There is a pressing need for modern phased array radar in use of the wide instantaneous bandwidth at large scan angles. It can be done with true time delay steering. However, using analog time delay units is an expensive solution, and it requires temperature stabilization which is difficult to achieve in practice. This problem can be resolved by the subarray stretch processing which applies digital time delay. This paper describes a method for achieving high precision time delay using Finite Impulse Response (FIR) digital filter. The details of the proposed method as well as its performance will be discussed here. Simulations and further analysis will also be presented.
