Abstract
This letter proposes a differential pulse generator based on a step recovery diode (SRD). Powered by a single supply the differential pulse generator utilizes inverting and noninverting drivers implemented with metal–oxide–semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFETs) to form both forward and reverse bias loops for a single SRD. The SRD accumulates minority carriers in the forward bias loop and rapidly interrupts the current through symmetric inductors in the reverse bias loop. This process generates high-amplitude, subnanosecond differential pulses. Measurement results confirm the generation of high-quality differential pulses and demonstrate the suitability of the design for miniaturized ultrawideband (UWB) transceiver applications.
