Abstract
In this paper, the relationship between hollow cathode discharge oscillation and low-power Hall thruster anode discharge oscillation under different magnetic fields, anode currents and anode flow condition was studied. The discharge characteristics and characteristic frequencies of hollow cathode and anode were analyzed by using Fast Fourier Transform(FFT). The discharge oscillation experiment of the hollow cathode and the coupling discharge experiment of the hollow cathode-Hall thruster anode were compared. The results show found that under the condition of small anode current, the discharge oscillation of hollow cathode can cause the Hall thruster anode to discharge oscillation, and the two have the same discharge oscillation spectrum. When the anode current and anode potential increase to a certain critical value, the oscillation spectrum of hollow cathode and Hall thruster anode change suddenly. When the critical value is exceeded, compared with the inherent oscillation spectrum of the separate hollow cathode, the discharge oscillation spectrum of the hollow cathode change, indicating that the anode can in turn affect the discharge oscillation of the hollow cathode, and the discharge oscillations of the two is coupled with each other. The research provides a reference for the design of low power Hall thruster with high reliability and long life.
