Abstract

The silicon-based flame retardants, polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane(OPS), were added to polyurethane elastomer. And it is found that OPS has some influence on the thermal stability of polyurethane elastomer (TPU), and when the mass fraction of OPS is 15%, it can significantly decrease the phenomenon of molten drops in the process of combustion. Then OPS is mixed with ammonium polyphosphate (APP) and diethyl phosphonic acid aluminum (ADP) respectively, the flame retardancy of TPU/OPS/APP and TPU/OPS/ADP composite can be improved dramatically. APP is significantly superior to ADP. The comprehensive performance of TPU/10%OPS/5%APP system is the best, while the peak of heat release rate is reduced from 1339 kW/m 2 to 489 kW/m 2 ,the reducing range amounts to 63.5%, and the total smoke emission is reduced from 3425 m 2 /m 2 to 1884 m 2 / m 2 ,the reducing range amounts to 45.0%, and the residual mass is 18%. The carbon layer of the TPU/OPS/APP system after cone test is more dense and hard.
