Abstract

Heat treatment,as a core course for majors such as Materials Science and Engineering, involves both phase transformation principles and heat treatment technologies. How to help students gain a deeper understanding of phase transformation principles and systematically master and apply heat treatment processes remains an ongoing challenge. Five-step teaching methodology for principles and technologies of heat treatment:“demand analysis → thermodynamic calculation → process design → performance verification → plan optimization”is proposed. Through teaching and practice based on various demands, this approach enables students to systematically and flexibly acquire knowledge points while enhancing their professional proficiency in principles and technologies of heat treatment. Taking the topic of the China University Students Mechanical Engineering Innovation Competition—Materials Heat Treatment Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition as an example, through designing the heat treatment processes and technical requirements for alloys (for instance, aviation bearing steel 30Cr15Mo1N),the knowledge of heat treatment processes including annealing, quenching and tempering is applied, and the principles of solid-state phase transformation are utilized to understand the phase transformations and microstructural evolution occurring during heat treatments.
