Abstract
The traditional shop-floor for Manufacturing Execution System (MES)-centric mode is always slow and hysteretic in exception responding and decision making along with poor system stability. To overcome these deficiencies and realize real time monitoring, precise prediction and rapid response of abnormal production, a new paradigm, distributed initiative and collaborative manufacturing for the intelligent shop-floor was proposed. The concept, architecture and operation principle of distributed initiative and collaborative manufacturing were illustrated in detail, and the key technologies and the characteristics of the new paradigm were investigated. It was pointed out that the proposed new paradigm could provide an effective way for the real-time management, control and optimization of the intelligent shop-floor and was likely to be one of the main modes for the complex discrete manufacturing shop-floors in the future.
