The School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at the Beijing Institute of Technology was established in 1940 as the Chemical Engineering Department of Yan'an Natural Science Academy. Over the years, it went through several stages and saw its name changed before being finally established as the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering in 2016. The school consists of the Department of Chemistry and the Department of Chemical Engineering, and has 11 research institutes focused on different disciplines, as well as experimental teaching centers and laboratories.
