Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) has built a profound foundation in the field of artificial intelligence. As one of the earliest universities in China engaged in AI-related teaching, scientific research and talent cultivation, BIT took a pioneering step by establishing the Department of Automatic Control in the 1960s and the Department of Computer Science and Engineering in the 1980s.

In recent years, the university has rolled out comprehensive layouts and maintained sustained efforts in the AI domain. It has secured approval for 12 high-profile science and education platforms of strategic significance, including the State Key Laboratory of Autonomous Intelligent Unmanned Systems and one of the first batch of National Artificial Intelligence Industry-Education Integration Innovation Platforms. On May 17, 2025, the School of Artificial Intelligence was officially inaugurated with a grand opening ceremony.

Adopting an innovative organizational model of "School + Management + Service", the School of Artificial Intelligence has developed an "AI Innovation Complex with One Core and Multiple Capabilities" and constructed an independent innovation ecosystem characterized by "XAI" interdisciplinary integration. It effectively advances the integrated "trinity" development of AI education, science and technology, and talent cultivation, providing full support for BIT’s campus-wide AI education for all faculty and students and the all-round intelligent transformation of the university.

BIT’s Digital Intelligence and Intelligent Computing Center is fully integrated into the School of Artificial Intelligence, building a domestically top-tier intelligent computing hub that integrates "computing power + algorithms + data" as an organic whole. This center offers comprehensive computing power infrastructure and intelligent support for the integrated development of the university’s education, science and technology, and talent work, as well as for the scientific governance of the university and the refined management of teaching affairs.
