Design of gap waveguide PMC packaging for a SIW power combiner

Abstract

In this paper, a gap waveguide perfect magnetic conductor (PMC) packaging for a substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) power combiner is presented. The SIW-to-GCPW (grounded coplanar waveguide) transition is utilized for connection with monolithic microwave integrated circuit. The simulated results of the back-to-back structure with gap waveguide PMC packaging show that the return loss is better than 15 dB and the insertion loss is about 1 ± 0.2 dB from 101 GHz to 128 GHz, satisfying the requirement for power combining of broadband amplifiers or frequency multipliers.
