Abstract

Symmetry SEED is a basic optical switch based on Self-Electrooptic Effect Device (SEED). The basic structure of S-SEED is introduced and then analyzed by using a purely capacitive model. Linear approximation and N-segment approximation were used in order to obtain the Voltage-Time (V-t) characteristics expression of S-SEED. Theoretical analysis was verified with MATLAB simulation, and it proved that the precision of switch time can satisfy the requirement in engineering application by using linear approximation analysis; and the switch characteristics under different input powers and input contrast ratios were compared. It is found that increasing the input contrast ratio is a more efficient way to enhance the performance.
