Abstract

A novel wind energy conversion system (WECS) based on series-connected converter is proposed in this paper. In multi-phase series-connected converter, the de sides of three phase are series-connected to reduce the number and voltage stress of power switches and dv/dt at ac side. The insulation requirements for the generator is different from that of star-connected generator with two-level, three-phase inverter, due to the structure of series-connection. The principle and control strategy of the WECS are investigated in this paper. A simulation based on Matlab/Simulink environment is built, and the simulation results validate that the voltage across the dc capacitor of each phase is well balanced and the generator operates smoothly.
